Engorged breasts: Milk fills up after childbirth and as the baby’s requirement is less than the supply, the breast gets engorged. You can apply cold cabbage leaves for relief or just squeeze out excess milk from time to time.

No milk: This is another common problem. The simple answer is wait and let your child continue sucking your breast as the more it sucks the more milk will be produced. It takes 24  hours for the body to understand how much milk the baby requires. See our page on how to improve lactation for more details.

Baby sleeping off during breastfeeding: Most babies sleep after a feed, initially they are hungry all the time. You can tickle the child’s ear to make sure he drank enough milk, but later the child generally doses off when he is full. Remember they have tiny stomachs so they feed very often. I know its frustrating but look around we all have been through it.

So enjoy breastfeeding and never give up.

By Aisha Singh

Pregnancy is often one of the most exciting times in a woman’s life, however staying fit and active during this period can be a challenge for many. This being said, numerous studies have shown that keeping physically active during pregnancy is largely beneficial for both mum and baby. With this in mind, if you don’t have some gym accessories to do sport, a good option is to check for second hands fitness accessories on local free classifieds sites which are quite economic respect to new accessories. Surely, you will need to save money!

One of the best ways to stay fit and active during pregnancy is to attend your local gym.  Naturally, the amount of exercise that you feel comfortable doing depends greatly on your fitness levels and current trimester. Furthermore, it is always advisable to consult your doctor before attempting anything particularly demanding. This being said, regular exercise, either at home or at the gym, can drastically improve common problems during pregnancy such as constipation and insomnia whilst minimising the risks of depression and diabetes.

Another great way to stay active during pregnancy is to sign up for prenatal classes. This provides for the perfect opportunity to socialise with other expecting mums and engage in workouts that have already been safely modified for pregnant woman. Signing up for a water aerobics class is a great option for woman in their final trimester. Continue reading

Experts believe that as little as thirty minutes of walking just three times per week can have incredibly positive effects on the physical and mental wellbeing of both the mumtobe and the growing baby. This means that you don’t need to necessarily engage in a fastpace cardio workout in order to stay active during pregnancy and can safely opt for more relaxing options such as treadmill walking.

During pregnancy it is vital that the expectant mum gets enough sleep and rest. This means taking a week off from your exercise routine every now and then in order to allow your body to recover. This, alongside a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, will no doubt lead to a happy pregnancy for both mum and baby.

Baby Food: Moong Dal Khichdi

khichdi

Though it was pricey, the quantity is more than enough for mom and baby. And the accompaniments were great, khichdi is served with matka yogurt, pickels and papads. And with Taj hospitality you can feel the extra love in the food. So both me and my kid totally loved the khichdi.

So once we were back home, the first thing I wanted to do is replicate the same dish. I usually use toor dal for khichdi but this time I used moong dal and it turned out the same way. And who said baby food is not tasty?? try this out.. you will love it too.

Recipe of Angel Hair Pasta with Veggies – Baby/Kids Food

pasta

Recently I have been very interested in pasta as my daughter loves stringy food. So compared to noodles which is made with refined flours, I prefer pasta which is made of wheat. I give her some to bite on, but I have a baby food version which is made for her. Ill tell you how you can convert pasta made for you and your kids into baby food.

I sometimes use Ragu pasta/pizza sauce which is nothing but tomato puree. You can easily make puree at home by boiling tomato in water, removing the skin and blending it in a mixer. Add or remove as many veggies as you like.

Ingredients:

  • Angel Hair pasta – a handful
  • Tomato puree (3 tomatoes)/ store bought sauce 1/2 cup
  • Veggies (I use broccoli, zucchini, red and yellow capsicum, olives)
  • Onion – 1 whole
  • Garlic- 3-4 pods
  • chilli flakes- 1tsp
  • Pasta seasoning- 1tsp (dried oregano, basil, or any combo that you like, I use store bought pizza seasoning)
  • Salt
  • Grated Parmesan cheese

Procedure

Cook pasta in water with salt and keep aside. Continue reading

In a pan add oil, garlic (chopped or crushed), chilli flakes and toss, to this add onions and fry till it changes color.

Now add in all your veggies and toss for 1-2 mins. Now add tomato puree, salt, pasta seasoning and cook. It should be saucy. (Now drain a little sauce and keep aside for your baby food)

Now add pasta cook for 1-2 mins and turn down the flame. Finally garnish with shredded cheese.

*Do not replace chilli flakes with chilli powder*

Baby Food: Spaghetti Pasta

Procedure:

Summer vacations has arrived. So what are the plans for this summer? How you want your children to spend their summer? They love to go outdoors and play sports. Yes that is very good and best activity to encourage their physical fitness. Some children love to play indoors. There are some activities which will help to hone their skills and make them a better person while they are indoors.

1. Topic discussion:

You can choose any topic of their choice and discuss and ask various questions. This will encourage them to think and come up with various inferences and thoughts. For example, you can choose the topic of cricket and discuss on IPL, how the sport has grown in these years? and ,etc. You could also allot some time for brainstorming about any idea or subject of common interest. This will also help them when they will answer comprehension type exercises. Also story telling works well which would improve their listening skills.

Story telling

2. Knitting or cross stitch:

This activity not only aims in designing attractive and colourful sweaters and clothes but also builds mathematical ability and imparts patience and analytical thinking.

Knitting

3. Art:

Painting and colouring too gives them patience. Through this they will be able to do their science journal or engineering drawing efficiently.

4. Story writing:

Ask your little one to think and write on any topic. You could also give them any topic and ask them to develop a story or plot. This will increase their imagination and power of visualising things. Also their vocabulary and grammar gets an upliftment.

5. Music:

Music touches the soul and children have the ability to learn music or musical instruments at a rapid pace. A daily dose of classical or western music will pose as a wonderment to develop an interest in it.

Music

6. Lateral thinking:

you could ask questions on Lateral thinking and see how they answer. This out of ordinary thinking will give them a helping hand when they are writing some competitive exams.

Lateral thinking

So if you think your children is not going out to play. Don’t fret so much. Instead try implementing these activities which would improve their brains and thinking power. Remember, the television and video games won’t help much in educating them but only makes them inactive. By implementing this format, children get to spend undivided attention towards their family.

Surrogate mother

mother-child
She hid and saw him wherever he went
But never could she say of what she felt

All her dreams were of him
He was her future that she was searching
His smile made her smile
His sadness made her shed tears
But it was a pain that she had to bear
Her heart loved him to the core
But she couldn’t ask for more
For never could she say What he was to her
After all,she was his SURROGATE MOTHER!!!!!!
This post is on account of Mothers Day which is arriving soon. This poem on Surrogate Mother is written by Bhuvaneshwari Ramesh, a writer and poet.

How to select right shoes for your little ones?

shoe final

During the last few weeks my daughter has lost so many shoes, I can barely count. So we finally got tighter shoes and it tore. Babies love the feel of the floor and its better you leave them like that at home. However when you go out, you need to note some factors. Dont buy fancy shoes just because they match the dress of the child. So how do we select shoes for babies and kids?

What should I consider while buying my baby’s first shoe?

  • Always buy flexible shoes (view more) as babies dont know how to walk and their legs go through many twists and turns. You can start with booties and late move on to soft leather or canvas
  • Ensure that enough air enters the shoes
  • Just press the shoes between your baby’s big tow and the next one, there should be enough spacing.

Shoes for toddlers and kids

It is easier to choose shoes for toddlers and kids as they would be able to communicate if they are not comfortable with a shoe. But here are some factors you may want to consider

  • Fit
  • The purpose like running, sports or just trendy.
  • Your kid should be able to wear and remove the shoe on his own. So buckles or straps?
  • The material. Some kids are allergic to leather although most kids like canvas.
  • Choose shoes which is straight at the bottom, also watch the heel.
  • If your brand conscious that maybe a factor.

Visit www.babyoye.com for a wide range of shoes and socks.
