Baby Fruit Chart – List of fruits for infants

Hi Mommies,

I know I have not been doing a lot of baby food recipes these days. Baby food is so easy to make with very little spices or seasoning.Once you know what are the fruits and veggies that can go into your baby purees and juices, the rest is left to imagination.

So here is a list of fruits that you can feed your baby after 6 months. As babies below 6 months should only be fed with breast-milk. Fruits can be given as juice, milkshakes (with breast-milk or formula only), mixed with yogurt as a smoothie, or boiled and mashed as a puree. It totally depends on your baby’s ability to eat.

But please note fruits are a choking hazard, do not feed big chunks of fruit and or leave your baby unattended while eating fruits. You can start them with finger foods after 8 months but make sure you give them huge pieces to bite on. Continue reading

So here is a list of fruits that can be given:

Mashed Bananas

Pureed peaches

Apples- pureed, juice, milkshakes, or big pieces for teething babies

Plums- mashed

Avocados- mashed

Mango – Very little quantity mashed, milkshake or yogurt smoothie

Papaya- again another fruit which is healthy but has to be given in moderation

Pears- cook the pear and mash

Avoid: Citrus fruits, fruits like strawberry that might contain allergens, grapes that can be choked, pineapple causes a lot of heat.

Review of Kores Kool Clay and Benefits of Playing with Clay

IMG_1401image

Hi Moms,

What are some of the playthings you remember as a child? Remember the colorful toys, dolls and activities that we had or just climbing trees and playing in the backyard. Im sure one thing we all played with is clay. Now our kids have fancy gadgets and battery driven toys but dont forget to introduce them to modeling clay as it has stayed through ages to help in the development of sensory skills in children. Today Ill be reviewing a product from Kores which a a popular brand which makes stationery and student art materials. This clay comes in different sizes and thats the best part, as you can start with smaller packs and later move to the larger boxes with molds

image.

I love the bright colors of the clay and the colors dont merge easily. The colors are organic and safe for kids above 3 years.

The fragrance is mild and your kids will love playing with the dough as its soft and pliable. They can use moulds to create shapes. Continue reading

Clay has many benefits, it is therapeutic. It just frees the mind similar, to the stress relieving balls that we adults use. You can have a parent kid activity where you can make cute figures and your kids can follow.

Clay develops the motor and sensory functions in a child. Its one of the best learning devices you can use to make learning fun.

So always choose a trusted brand and safe colors for your child’s delicate skin. Hence I would definitely recommend Kores Kool clay for kids above 3 years only.

Fastest and Most Efficient Weightloss for Obese people and my Inspiration

Once I delivered my baby, everyone I met was like “OMG you have gained so much weight”. I hated it. I was obese and heavy. It was so difficult for me to bend and pick up stuff. And with a C section recovery was worse.

I have been a regular gym bird before pregnancy and I know I was going to get stuck in  whirlpool of fat people there, still I went to my old gym for enrollment and I saw all my old friends almost the same weight as they were. And sharing their fitness fundas with each other. I told myself no ways not again!!

Then I had no spare time as I was stuck with the baby. I was getting depressed with my over-sized clothes. I hated looking at myself in the mirror. Then I saw this post by a gorgeous beauty blogger, Tanveer from http://addictedtoblush.blogspot.in/ and my life changed. She is my inspiration for weightloss and I dedicate this post to her. She was the pioneer of high protein diet, Paleo diet or wheat belly diet amongst the Indian Bloggers. I have heard celebrities raving about this diet, but no one gave out specific details and simplified it for dummies like me. Continue reading

I know so many people who are now taking this to a new level and starting weight loss programs with this diet. Being a blogger I look up to people like her who really care for others and not really bothered about monetary gains. Tanveer, I should tell you that your ATB BB Series is a bible for people without a direction and especially moms who have no time for themselves.

To be very frank, I could mange the exact diet for a month. As the diet was difficult for me living in a vegetarian household, I needed to source proteins from the restaurant which made it a little expensive. Everyone was wondering why I was eating all the expensive stuff myself. But in one month I lost 5 kgs flat and that was enough to regain my confidence and everyone was telling me how much weight I have lost. I slowly added carbs to my diet, but until now I balance out the proteins as I know the theory of fat burning proteins. It is definitely a lifestyle change and for the good.

I will give you my version of the diet, but all you obese people who have no idea what to do and have totally lost it. This should be your first step, its easy and no limit on the quantity, eat as much as you please. Its definitely not expensive if you plan your diet and also the best part is that you can eat out too. http://addictedtoblush.blogspot.in/2013/02/atb-bb-series-9-eating-outside-on-low.html

Its cheaper than all the gym admissions and personal trainers.

I want to thank you Tanveer, you will always be my inspiration for weightloss. Keep rocking girl!!!

A sample of Tanveers diet (In her own words):

Breakfast:

2 eggs + cheese.
I eat them in various preparations, depending on my mood. Scrambled with lots of onion, tomatoes, capsicum, chillies, cheese & garlic. Or else as a veggie + cheese omlette. Sometimes sunny side up. Boiled and mixed with mayo, cheese & veggies. There are honestly endless ways to prepare eggs. Also I eat the “whole” egg – white & yellow!

1 big glass of full fat milk
I generally have this when I’m in a hurry and don’t have time to eat eggs. I make a cold coffee out of this with some almonds & of, course, coffee

Lunch:

Grilled Chicken / Fish along with veggies sauteed in butter + I also eat a bowl of sabzi cooked the Indian way: Gobi peas, carrots, capsicum, palak-paneer, methi malai or sometimes a small bowl of rajma or chole. All vegetables & mushrooms are fine – except potatoes, beet & sweet potatoes. Depending on my mood I also eat curd at times or a glass of buttermilk. Eat natural, unsweetened curd & buttermilk. Don’t eat the flavoured, full of sugars & preservatives wala curd. You can also eat a bowl of salad at this point with the meat.

You can cook the meat in any way you like. I prefer grilled as it is dry & easy to carry to office.

Evening Snack:

If I haven’t had cold coffee in the morning I generally have it at this point.

Or else I eat nuts: cashews, peanuts & almonds that I roast in ghee. You can eat walnuts, hazelnuts, pistas as well.

Or I have some grilled paneer / raw paneer

Or some sabzi + bowl of curd.

Or I make a bhel out of peanuts as base, to this I add onions, tomatoes, chillies, corriander, butter, salt, shredded cheese & mayo.

Or else I have tomato / veggie / spinach soup that I make at home with tomatoes, onions, garlic & carrots. You will get the recipe easily online. Just don’t thicken it with corn-flour. I add cream to it, before eating.

Once in fortnight I eat onion or gobi or paneer pakodas that I make using only besan – no corn flour or anything else. I just coat the veggies or paneer with a very thin layer just for crunch. Sometimes I substitute the besan with an egg coating instead. It works just as well.

Dinner:
Chicken cooked with veggies. This meal is similar to lunch.

Dessert:
2 pieces of dark chocolate – at least 70%. Please don’t eat Bournville, it is full of sugar. Get Lindt. They have 70, 80 & 90% as well. You can eat this everyday, but I’m not very fond of chocolate so I generally eat this once a week.

Once a week – I eat Strawberries with Cream.
I cut up 4-5 ripe stawberries & add cream (malai – you get this easy in market. It is mostly 25% fat, but if you get a higher one, purchase that) generously. I honestly love this desert & look forward to it as my weekly treat!d potatoes, doughnuts, cakes, pies, pastries, cookies, and chocolate, you avoid a huge amount of incoming fat, even when you get a moderate amount in lean meats & eggs

Fertility Diet – Food for Conception

With today’s stressful life conception has become a very difficult and challenging issue. I know a lot of friends facing issues with conception. A healthy lifestyle, exercise and diet plays a major role in conceiving a baby. So for all of you who are taking this for granted, I would say take a minute to analyze your lifestyle and make necessary changes before its too late.

See our weightloss section for more tips on losing weight. For now let us discuss the super-foods for conception:

Natural fats and Oils: Switch to more natural oils like peanut oil and coconut oil. You can use butter for cooking, remember our grandparents with so many kids? they did not use refined oil in cooking

Omega 3– Fish and flax seeds are some great sources of omega 3, or simple start on cod liver oil capsules.

Whole grains: They are high in fiber, iron, vitamin b and folic acids. So consume only whole wheat bread and preferable brown rice.

Fruits and Veggies; Include fruits and veggies of atleast 3 colors throughout the day.

Vitamin C: it plays a major role in iron absorption by the body. So have lots of citrus fruits, kiwi and juices, along with spinach and broccoli.

Diary: Have a lot of cottage cheese but reduce the intake of too much milk as it increases the acidity of the body.

Lots of warm water: water helps in developing the follicles and movement of sperms.

Nuts and seeds: again high source of protein and vitamin B, So atleast one serving of nuts per day.

Start prenatal vitamins as prescribed by doctor and folic acid capsules daily.

For the men:

Food high in zinc, selenium, folic acid, and vitamin B is essential. So a bite of dark chocolate a day really helps.

Vitamin C and E. So all the above foods are applicable to men also.

I found this video by my favorite chef of a special drink for men which increases fertility.

Avoid:

  • Alcohol and smoking: it dehydrates the body.
  • caffeine: excess caffeine dehydrates the body and increases acidity
  • Food high in vitamin A such as liver and raw or uncooked meat and eggs.
  • After ovulation dont eat ice-creams and cold food, keep the body warm.

Hope all of you will be parents very soon. Do like our facebook page here.

Growing Feet in Safe Hands

PicMonkey Collage 2

First shoes are often a prime concern for mothers as toddlers outgrow their shoes in very short durations in the first year. Due to this, toddlers feet need to be measured every few months. From the moment a child begins to crawl right to their teenage years children’s feet are constantly developing. Therefore choosing the right size and kind of shoe for your child is an important decision.

As per the extensive knowledge on First Shoes from the footwear brand Clarks, there are 3 key stages in a child’s development –Crawling, Cruising & Walking. All these stages are important to take into consideration while choosing the right shoe for your child.

Crawling: Once a baby has learnt to sit up on their own they will quickly learn to pull themselves along and soon they will start crawling. The right type of shoes for this stage is:

  • Very light and flexible
  • 10 mm growing room in the shoe which is enough to allow a child’s feet to grow
  • Smooth seamless interiors for comfort
  • Soft breathing material to care for feet
  • Whole and half sizes, with natural toe shape and easy fastenings

Cruising: This is the time when children try to get up on their own or take some furniture support and try and stand on their feet. Gradually they take support, slide and move from one furniture piece to the other taking support. The right type of shoes for this stage is: Continue reading

  • Protective toe heel and waist guard
  • Textured side patterns to aid grip between crawling and cruising
  • Light and flexible, 10 mm growing room for allowing their feet to grow
  • Soft materials which does not rub their feet
  • Whole and half sizes, with natural toe shape and easy fastenings

Walking: In this stage the child is in the first stage of walking, their feet will be wide open and there will be no flexing of ankles or knees. They usually start walking between the age of 9-18 months depending on individual development. The right type of shoes for this stage is:

  • Close cropped soles to prevent tripping
  • Light weight flexible soles with soft materials to keep the feet cool
  • Padded ankle collar for support
  • 14mm growing room and fully adjustable fastening
  • Whole and half sizes

As  per Clarks expertise in first shoes all the above features and characteristics are very important while buying. Clarks is known to be the number one brand in UK in this category and they have vast experience on shoes for the tender years to advise proper comfort and safety for your child.

Clarks also has professionally trained shoe fitters who have extensive training and experience in the development of children’s feet. The trained shoe fitter will always use a specially designed measuring gauge to check the length, width and depth of a child’s foot.

At Clarks, the kids’ collection ranges from Rs.1200 to Rs.4500. It covers a wide variety of shoes which are just the right shoe every parent would like to have for their child. Clarks shoes are equipped with all the essentials such as softness, good support and proper grip and comfort for your child.

Book Review: Bringing Up Your Baby by Komal Porecha

book

Hello Moms,

Today Im doing a book review, its Komal Porecha’s much awaited book on the baby’s first year. We all know that the baby’s first year is the most critical. They go through so many changes in a year from rolling, standing, sitting and walking. For parents too this one year brings in so many surprises that we have never seen for many years put together.

So here is a mom of 3 (her twins and her dog) as she has mentioned and her story. The first thing I liked was the cover of the book. Then I read through the introduction and her story. We all would have felt like her and gone through her journey at some point of time. Its like a casual mommy talk that moms have when we catch up. Continue reading

From the Publishers:

A month by month guide on baby care with a practical and contemporary approach to parenting that reflects the way we live today.

Once you’ve delivered your baby, you know that the fun has just started. From your parents, to friends and neighbours, everyone has advice to give you about how to care for your baby. And as well meaning and confusing as they may be, how do you know what’s right for you and your angel? After all, you want to give your precious newborn the best, don’t you?

Bringing Up Your Baby features a wealth of information on topics such as vaccines, babies and learning, baby illnesses, postpartum depression, etc. It is the first of its kind in India providing helpful forms for recording information and important dates and is  packed with charts and schedules.

What I liked:

It has pages throughout the book on medical advice and important tips on baby’s month-wise growth. The book is a short read and can be gifted during baby-showers. It will really help new moms and worried pregnant mommies. Her experiences with raising two kids is cute, and stressful at times. There are charts and schedules that would be handy.

But do not expect this book to act as a bible for all your answers. Parenting is a very vast subject and I would not blame anyone for not being not able to cover all topics in one book. So read, learn laugh and keep enhancing your knowledge on parenting.
