DIY Projects: Organize with Magnets

By Fiona Greyson,

It’s sometimes difficult to cover every cranny, nook and drawer in your house when doing the chores. Usually cleaning focuses on the most common areas and many parts stay unattended. It is a good idea to find time to organise all the things and here in this article we give tips to organizing with magnets.

At first the idea seems a little redundant and lame, but after giving some thought to it, it begins to sound appealing. We have shown a few organising solutions involving magnets. What else can you do with magnets? See below.

Knives

A good way to keep your knives organised and away from children is to place a magnetic strip in your kitchen. Choose a place which your children and pets will not be able to reach. Be sure to pick strong magnets or your knives will keep falling.

Makeup

Make a special makeup magnet board. You’re going to need small circular magnets. Buy some from the store. You also need hot glue and a metal tray. Using the hot glue, stick the magnets to the makeup containers. Wait for the glue to dry. Then place the magnets on the tray. You can have every eyeshadow in its own place, which will make it easy for you to find the products you need when applying makeup. Isn’t it great? Continue reading

This is a funny and clever way to organise your makeup.

Jewelry

If you have tons of jewelry and you often drop them on the floor while searching the one you need, it’s time to organise them. All the bangles and bracelets can be easily organised with magnets. Use a metal tray. Stick several small magnets on it and hang your jewelry. Not only will it help you find your bracelets faster, it will also add a beautiful look to the room.

Spices

Your spice containers can be more organised by adding magnets. Use strong magnets. Using glue, attach magnets on the bottom of the containers, then stick them to a magnet tray or a sheet of steel. Online shops offer special spice racks, so if you are not a fan of DIY, you can buy one of these and organise your spices.

What are these spice racks like? There usually are about six aluminum canisters that come with the package. They are placed on a magnetic strip very tightly. The lids of the canisters are transparent so that you can easily see the contents. The rack is about 20 inches long. It is mounted to a door or wall. The package comes with a variety of spice labels. This is a great idea for organising your spices and it also looks great.

Cleaning tools

Some cleaning tools can be hung on the wall. This will free some space in your kitchen. Shiny Cleaning N6 advise you to can hang gloves, microfiber cloths, rags and brushes. So, when you clean your home, part of your cleaning kit will be within easy reach. You can even add wet wipes. If you spill some wine, juice or coffee on the hard floor or tiles, your can quickly grab a wipe and clean the surface before somebody steps on it helping spread the stain.

Pen holders

If you have one too many pens, pencils and erasers and they always take up so much space on your desk, hang them on the wall using magnets. Mount a sheet of metal to the wall. Attach strong magnets to a few containers and stick them to the sheet of metal. Then add all your pencils and pens.

What do DIY projects teach our children?

By Fiona Greyson,

With all the modern technologies and inventions which the contemporary world offers, it becomes harder and harder for the children to teach proper values. Seems like they don’t have to work to achieve anything because most of the things are a given. For the parents, however, the things can be even harder. If you are one and you want to help your child to become more confident or assiduous, the DIY projects are one way to do that. There are many ideas for such projects which don’t have to be boring. On the contrary, you can turn them into fun activities which you can perform together with your children. This way you will have a good time together and they will learn a lot of useful things which will help them in their future lives.

Undoubtedly, one of the best ways to make your little ones more responsible is by making them help more around the house. Assisting you with the cleaning of the home, for example, is a good start. Putting your child in charge of the cleaning of his or her room is one thing but when you also add the dusting of the other premises or the washing of the dishes every once in awhile, you will show that there are other important responsibilities as well. The cleaning itself is a task which requires a lot of time and efforts, so by involving your children in the work process, you will demonstrate that you believe in their abilities which, on the other hand, will encourage them to be more ambitious. Sometimes you may not have much time to do that so must find CityCleaners W2 to maintain your home hygienic.

Educating your little one through DIY projects is a great opportunity to turn the teaching into a fun job. Even though you can plan and participate in the whole project yourself, it is essential to leave your child figure out most of the details. You can create paper flowers together, build houses for birds and during all of those projects you can guide but you still have to leave your little one to work alone. All DIY projects have something in common – their purpose to teach your child different important values like:

Responsibility – Being responsible is an essential quality which every child should have. Your little boy or girl needs to know that all actions have certain consequences and we need to learn to acknowledge and accept them. While working on the DIY project your kid will probably make some mistakes but that is completely normal. You can help your child understand what is the problem but then you have to let him or her figure out the solution alone. Continue reading

Confidence – The lack of confidence in most children nowadays comes from the fact that their parents are doing everything, instead of leaving the little ones solve some of their problems themselves. By working on a DIY project, your child becomes more confident in its own abilities because it is doing everything alone. Even though the project might not be successful from the first time, you can encourage your little one to try again. With every next step it takes, your kid will become more confident until the whole project is complete.

Frugality – Nobody wants to have a spoiled child. The DIY projects can also teach your little one to be more frugal. By building or creating useful things for the home, you can help your kid learn the true value of money and the best ways to save them.

Self-efficacy – If you want to make your child believe that he or she can do anything, that is also possible through something as simple as a DIY project. It will also teach your little one to be more ambitious which is an absolute guarantee for successful career and life. Giving more complicated task to your kid might scare him at first but once he manages to do it, he will see that with hard work you can achieve anything.

So I found a trick to create my own chocolate bars with oats and a lot of good stuff. One bar can easily replace a meal. Continue reading

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup oats  (plain or rolled)
  • 1 small bar of chocolate/ chocolate syrup/ nesquick solution or any chocolate you have
  • Honey (Optional)
  • Peanut Butter- 1 Tbspn
  • Butter- 1 Tbspn

Procedure:

*please note I have peanut butter flavored with honey*, if you want it a little sweet, add a tsp of honey, else skip.

Dry roast oats till light golden and keep aside.

In a flame or microwave bowl melt butter. To this add chocolate, peanut butter, honey and microwave on slow heat or cook on a stove on very low heat till all the chocolate melts. Now remove from heat and mix with oats. And let it set in a greased dish. I have made very less as it takes less than 3 mins to prepare the bars, and I prefer food prepared fresh.

How to Lose Weight in 7 Days

Hello People,

If you are our regular reader, you can sit back and enjoy the info and for the others, we totally understand how frustrating it is when you are suddenly invited to an event, and want to shed pounds in a week. And after all your diets and exercises have failed, you are left with one week. OK so lets get to  the first question, can you really to lose weight in a week? The answer is yes, but how much weight?

You can lose 2-3 kg on strict diets like juice diets and Gm diet, but since most of our readers are moms, we dont suggest both as it can drain you out. So here are some short cuts which I dont guarantee will show on the weighing scale, but you will definitely look slim and feel light on the D day.

Step 1- Water

You know we are also like camels, our body is always scared that we will deprive it from water, hence it will start retaining lots of water in our tissues. So the best thing will be to trick the body, and fill up with atleast 3 litres of water per day. So get 3 bottles, fill it up daily and finish it. Now your body will trust you and let go of the water retention. Continue reading

Step 2- Increase Fibre intake

Everyone who is a weight watchers knows this, you need to eat plenty of fruits and veggies. So my dear one week weight losers, along with this get a fibre supplement. Drink a glass of wheat grass juice or 1 tsp of Isabgol/psyllium husk in water. Both are natural fibres.

Step 3-Drink Coffee/Green Tea/Cut alcohol

Stop drinking alcohol, and start drinking coffee with no sugar. Coffee though I dont suggest for the long run, for a week it will just cut down your hunger. So its great before meals.

Step 4- Minus 1 portion of Food

Cut down your food by 1 portion. If you eat 2 sandwiches for breakfast make it one, if you eat 3 rotis for lunch make it 2, 1 bowl of rice becomes half..

Step 5- Change the way you eat

Eat lots of sprouts and lean meats. Say no to processed food. Reduce onions, broccoli and gassy food which will cause bloating.

Step 6- Get Active

I know taking yoga lessons or joining the gym wont help you in a week, but you need to increase your metabolism. So just a little extra workout will help you. Use the stairs, walk or cycle when your reaching a close by destination.

Kids Snacks Recipe: Murukku/Chakli

chakli

Hi Moms,

How was your Diwali? Mine was a busy one with Lakshmi pooja and loads of guests. Still I just enjoy the flavour of the season. One dish that my little one loved this time was murrukku, since she does not like a lot of sweets. Though you would find murukkus at many south Indian homes, very few people can make these perfectly. Home-made ones are either too soft or hard. So after years of hardwork, my mom finally got this foolproof recipe from her friend. Continue reading

It is really easy and the murukkus are so soft and crisp, that they just melt in the mouth.. Since it has urad dal, its very healthy for your kids (loads of calcium and protein) and you can store them upto 2 weeks in airtight boxes. So now is the time you can throw away junk food and make these for your kids.

Make sure you have a murukku maker before you make these:

Ingredients:

  • Urad dal (white whole)- 1cup
  • Rice flour- 3 cups
  • Butter/Ghee – 1Tbspn
  • Chilli Powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Water- very little
  • Salt
  • Till – 1 tsp (optional)
  • Jeera whole- 1/2 tsp (optional)
  • Oil for frying

Procedure

In a pressure cooker cook the urad dal with water (1:2) for 3-5 whistles. When it cools just mash the dal and add all the other ingredients and mix till you find a soft dough (similar to puri dough), not too hard and not too soft.

Now put the dough in the chakli maker and make rolls in a hot pan with oil.

How to Encourage Children to Play Outside More

By Fiona Greyson,

Nowadays, with the development of technologies more and more children spend a lot of their free time stuck at home, in front of the computer or the TV. Modern children simply seem to have forgotten the outside world that can be a great place for exploring, which provides them with thousands of options for fun and games. Respectively, it becomes more and more difficult to convince children to go outside and to enjoy themselves without using their gadgets such as iPhone or iPod, as they have used to checking constantly the social networks or simply to listen to their favourite music or playing the latest games.

Children are also often reluctant to socialize with other children and prefer spending their the days of their vacations indoors. This is why it is pretty normal for you, being a parent, to be wondering what to do in order to deal with the problem that often turns out to lead to unpleasant consequences for children. Continue reading

We will offer you simple alternatives through which you can try to encourage your children to stay outside longer and to make them motivated to socialize easier with both other children or adults.

Give them a suitable job to do

Often when people are asked to help in some activity outside they quickly refuse, considering the option as too boring. However, if they are convinced that you will count on them, they might change their opinion. A good alternative for some outside activities for your children can be the cleaning of your garden. You can invite all the children from the neighbourhood to take part in the cleaning process and you can even initiate a little competition considering the most devoted ones. This way work and fun can be combined outdoors and children will easily make new acquaintances.
Make sure you provide enough space for their games

When kids play, they love feeling independent, especially when they are at their own territory. If you want them to leave their computers and smartphones at home, and go play outside, you can try doing that by taking them to the park, or by organising them a one-day walk in the nature where they can feel free and undisturbed. Make sure you control them, but leave them more space so that they can invent their own games altogether with other children. It is essential that they are not being followed constantly – this way they will gain confidence and will be eager to initiate their own games without any problem.
Make the outside area of your home more comfortable

If the open area of your home is not appropriate for your kids, make sure you provide all the improvements that will facilitate their games and that will encourage them to leave their comfortable indoor world as quickly as possible. If there is not enough space for them in the garden, you can make some changes there, so that you set up a suitable playing area for them. Clean the space from garbage, if any, or old stuff that could bother their games or book for SpledidCleaners Services to do so. Explain them you have made these improvements especially for them and this will surely make them more interested in the idea of going outside, even for a couple of hours.

These are some ideas, which you can use in order to motivate your children to choose the pleasure of the outside games instead of hiding in your home and taking up their time with the modern video games and social networks. You can really make your children happier by offering them these great possibilities for having more fun and beneficial activities that correspond to their age. You will see how quickly they will start preferring the freshness of the air outside and the opportunities for fun that are awaiting them.
