Parsley Benefits and Parsley Butter Garlic Rice recipe

2014-07-31 13.25.53

Hi Mums,

Sorry for the long gap. Im back with some great health tips and recipes.

Nowadays, we find so many new herbs in the market. I have always used these herbs in pastas and pizzas and never dared to use them in Indian cooking. But they work very well with Indian food too and why miss out on all the heath benefits when its so easily available. Just make sure you dont overuse it and too many spices will kill the flavor. Too much raw parsley will smell like betel leaf :) Continue reading

Here are some benefits:

  • Parsley has anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Packed with vitamins A, B, C, and K.
  • It has high iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc.
  • Helps with anemia, arthritis, kidney problems, hair growth, immunity building and so much more

Recipe of Butter Garlic Parsley Rice

The name says it all. We just need Minced garlic or garlic paste (1tsp), Chopped parsley (1 bunch), 1 cup (uncooked Basmathi rice), Butter, Chilli Powder and salt. You can add peas if you want.

Basmathi rice has very less starch hence Im using it for health benefits.

Procedure:

1- Soak Basmathi rice with water for 10 mins

2- Meanwhile in a pressure cooker, add 1 Tbspn butter and garlic, fry for a very short time as the butter might burn the garlic. Now add chopped parsley and chilli powder and fry till parsley looses all its water.

3- Finally add rice and salt with water (1 and half cups) and cook for 1-2 whistles.

You can also cook the rice separately and follow step 2.

Tips for Looking After Your Baby’s Teeth

It’s always shocking just how early babies cut their first tooth. One minute they’re tiny babes in arms, and the next they’ve got a good set of gnashers on them and are ready to start exploring solid foods. Whether your child is all gum, has a single tooth, or proudly shows off a complete set of baby teeth, it’s never too early for good oral hygiene – after all, many online authorities offering parenting tips on child development or physical health support an early start with good habits, whether it’s exercise or something as simple as brushing their new teeth. Check out these easy parenting tips for keeping your baby’s teeth looking strong, clean, and healthy!

Sensible Weaning

As a parent, weaning is a very exciting time: it’s such a thrill to see your baby start to experiment with purees and solid finger foods. But this is also a great time to really think about oral hygiene, and how you can reduce the risk of decay. One of the best things you can do for your baby’s oral health is give them healthy foods that won’t damage their teeth.

Many of us think that fruit is better than things like biscuits, and it is, but be careful not to give your baby too much of a good thing. Fruit is filled with sugar, with dried fruits like raisins particularly problematic as they’re quite sticky and can attach to the teeth, allowing the sugars to eat away at the enamel. Try combining fruit with vegetables in sweet and savoury purees, and alternating between fruit and other snacks, like rice cakes, for a treat.

Be Careful With Bottles

Believe it or not, many dentists state that the overuse of bottles can be more harmful to a baby’s teeth than sugary juices and poor weaning choices. You don’t need to worry about this if you’re exclusively breastfeeding, but if you give milk from a bottle be aware of how long your baby is feeding for, and always adapt the bottle as your baby grows.

Bottles with interchangeable teats are excellent choices for your baby, as they allow you to upgrade the teat as your baby gets bigger. Teats intended for newborns can potentially damage the teeth of a 6 month old, for example, by limiting the flow too severely. This will cause your baby to suck harder and perhaps bite the teat to try to get more milk.

Be sure to never give your baby anything other than milk from a bottle. Some parents give a little bit of juice as a treat, but taking juice from a bottle can encourage tooth decay. The angle of the bottle means that juice is directed straight to the teeth, and the sugars can begin to rot the teeth quite quickly. Continue reading

Get Brushing!

Your baby can barely even hold its own head up, never mind operate a toothbrush, so how, and when, should you start getting your child into the habit of teeth brushing? Although it may seem early, you should begin the routine of brushing the teeth as soon as your baby cuts his or her first tooth – basically, as soon as there’s something there to brush.

You might have heard that fluoride – a common ingredient in toothpaste – can be harmful to children, but it’s better to opt for low fluoride toothpaste rather than a fluoride-free one. The Indian Dental Association reports that fluoride can reduce decay by up to 40 percent, so it’s a very important ingredient. When you start brushing your baby’s teeth (or tooth!), don’t be too vigorous. At this stage, simply getting toothpaste onto the teeth is enough to protect against decay.

Build a Routine

As you may have discovered, everything is tricky before you’ve properly established a good routine. Your baby may not be too keen on you trying to brush their teeth at first, but rest assured that – like feedings, bedtimes, and nappy changes – once they become used to the routine, they’ll soon accept it as an everyday part of life. As your baby gets older, they’ll love using the toothbrush themselves and cleaning their own teeth!

5 Effective Ways for Personality development In Your Child

By Aradhana,

Certain character traits, including perspective, outlook and judgement skills, make up the personality of an individual. Psychological research and common consensus suggest that personality traits start from infancy; babies as young as six months old show unique characteristics and are often labelled by their parents as “calm”, “cranky” or “bubbly”.

As the child grows, his personality also matures and the time is crucial; as long as his caregiver, usually the parent, monitors and nurtures this budding personality, and make sure that the child develops into a competent and compassionate adult. Below, we present five ways to get your child develop the right personality required in today’s world.

1. Give Mock Judgement Tests

Judgement skills are not inherited or generated. They are formed via exposure to real life situations. Make your child read moral stories, without revealing the climax – and ask him how the story should have ended. You can then list down his answers and justifications; those answers that do not tread on the right vein, can then be explained to him. This is a good chance for children and parents to have a healthy conversation regarding moral and social issues.

2. Encourage a Friendship Journal

Yes, studies do comprise the majority of your child’s attention, but not intuitively – it is only thrust upon them. Friendships, on the other hand, nourish your child’s spirit and make him ready for relationships in the future. Encourage your child to maintain a journal where he can tabulate his interactions with his friends. Expressing emotions through writing is a therapeutic way that helps your child to healthily vent out his anger or frustrations!

3. Make Volunteering a Must

Some over-protective parents never let their children see the less desirable side of the world. However, a child brought up that way will not become an emotionally healthy and spiritually strong adult. If you want your child to be a good human, let him know the plight and state of lesser privileged people. In addition, you must also show him the way to making a difference in their lives can be as simple as spending a couple of hours in an orphanage.

4. Plan A Trip With Your Child

Kids need exposure to not just different foods, but also different places. Rather than gifting clothes or toys, gift a cultural or a nature trip to your child. A picture is worth a thousand words; similarly, a trip is worth a thousand hours of studying. Instilling a sense of travel and adventure in your child will equip him with the skills or tools he would use in the future, when he faces adversities and challenges. Remember – a ship is safe in the harbour, but that is not why it was built for! Here are some amazing places to visit with your child. Continue reading

5. Money Management

Every adult is expected to earn and save money, so parents should introduce their child to money management essentials. Involve your kids in household budgeting discussions and let them know how their life is made easy because of your money management skills. Monitor how your kids spend money and lead way for regular financial discussions. Kids who learn about money at an early age, preferably from their parents, will possess a better understanding of debts, and will a better foundation in managing their financial lives.

Often, adults expect children to act right in any situation. Truth is, children need to be shown and explained what’s right and wrong. In almost all cases, kids look up to their parents and follow the way shown by them, directly or indirectly! So make your own rules so that they also learn to do so from you. All the best!!
