Im adding an image from babyoye.com as my images are not clear. Also yo can see my images below:

playgym1

My friend gifted us the Playgro play gym, the basic one. The playgym has a mat with a play rod and some cute toys hanging from it.

These play gyms are used to develop all the senses of babies. Initially my baby was not very fond of it, but as her eye sight developed, she started loving the gym. Continue reading

Now we put her on the mat and she easily whiles off about half hour on this mat figuring out what to do.

The mat is so colorful, hence it helps the baby turn and look at the colors. The ears of the money on the mat is made up of plastic and hence when my baby touches the ears it makes paper crushing sound.

She tries to hold on to the rod, I’m sure this will help her try to get up on her own in future.

There are 3 hanging toys; one has music so when she touches it music starts to play. The other one makes jingle sounds. There is a magnifying mirror. My kid stares and stares at the magnifying glass, I can’t believe that she is so self obsessed so soon.

Overall a nice product we are figuring out new uses daily with our baby.

It’s easy to carry around. A nice gift to give people with babies. The rod can be removed and the mat can be used in the long run.

Its easily foldable and travel friendly.

Price is around 2500 RS in India, but if someone is traveling to the US you can get this product for around 1500 RS.

Nuby Stay Clean Baby wipes

By Tara

nuby1

In my previous post I talked about how important the use of wipes are when you have a baby. You need to carry it around. I got Nuby wipes in a discount on Babyoye.com when I was looking for wipes on discount.

But now Im in love with these wipes. Continue reading

It has aloe vera, vitamin e and charmomile extract. The texture is similar to cloth.

It’s an alcohol free and paraben free wipes. We can reuse the wipes by dipping in water just in case it was not used much.
It is suppose to be fragrance free too, but it has a mld fragrance which I like.

If you buy it on sale 30 wipes just costs around 30 RS, which is very reasonable. I always stock these wipes.
Its better to have many small packets of wipes than having one big one. You can just put this in a bag and take it with you.

nuby2

It has a nice sticker on the top which is quite sturdy.
This was very mild on my babys skin and keeps it soft.
I don’t have any complaints on this product.

Naming ceremony – Part 1

naming1

Naming ceremony or Namkarana as they call it here in Karnataka is a very important event after the child’s birth.

A name is one thing which remains with a person for the rest of their life. So a lot of importance is given to the naming ceremony here in India.
As my baby turns 6 months we decided to club her naming ceremony and Annaprasana. Annaprasana is a pooja which has to be done before feeding solid food for babies.

We have been working hard for this occasion from the venue, food, invitations, return gifts and so on.

I will be writing about all this in the posts to come. Will cover details of how we chose the venue, food and the event in detail. Continue reading

According to Hindu customs, a girl will be given 4 names, one her birth star or nakshatra name, second a month name, third a god’s name and finally the name that she will use in her daily life.

Since my baby’s birth star is Magha or Magham, the alphabets corresponding to the star were MA, ME, MEE and MO. Also they see the padham or stage of the nakshatra, there are 4 stages of the stars transit and my baby was born in the second padham. So her nakshatra name is MEENAKSHI.

Then her month name is KAMALA.

Then gods name we still have not decided, I might name her Anagha as its MA parvathis name.

Ok then finally it came down to her official name, according to me this is the most important of all, as she will use this name every single day of her life. It was confusing as we had no restrictions in naming her.
We had loads of suggestions, I first wanted to name her Ananya and my husband wanted to name her Druvi, then others told us that Ananya is very common and Druvi sounds like a pet name. Urgggh

Then my mom suggested that we use the same alphabet from her birth star so that it brings luck to her.
This made it a little simple for us, but M is a little difficult alphabet. We liked Mihika but it did not sound very south Indian and did not match her surname. So finally my husband came up with Maanvi.

We all liked the name. Then I looked up for the meaning of her name.
Maanvi means ruler of the mind and soul, wife of Manu a saint, or multi talented person. These are some meanings I found.

Baby Life wet wipes

By Arathi

IMG_1097

IMG_1098

Once you have a baby, wet wipes will become one of the most essential commodities in your life.

You just can’t live without it. I use it to wipe my baby face, hands, legs, for cleaning, wiping my hands. Continue reading

Most wet wipes in India comes within a plastic cover with a sticker on top which makes it easy for us to pull out one wipe and we need to stick the top back

Wet wipes are made of cotton and paper which makes it easy for cleaning.

Baby Life wet wipes is alcohol free, fragrance free and paraben free. It is made of organic cotton and hence it is very safe for kids.

This one my husband got from Canada and I loved it so much just for the box. This review is more for the box and not the wipes.

I just love the packing. Now that I buy wipes locally, I just empty the wipes into this box.

When I just use a wipe to for my baby’s face, I keep the wipe back to use it later when she pees or poops. The box is really handy.

Though my best wet wipe brand is Nuby, this one gets all the marks for the packing. Nuby and Johnson wet wipes reviews will follow.

Review of B4 Nappi nappy rash cream

By Swathi

IMG_1387

IMG_1389

I know of many moms who do not use nappy rash creams or they use nappy rash creams only when the baby gets a rash.

But from the begining I have been very aware of the nappy rash issues and made up my mind to work towards protecting my baby from these horrible rashes.

I change diapers every 3 hours if its wet or no. And 2 times a day I apply a nappy rash cream to prevent the baby from developing a rash. A rash cream is a must even if your baby does not have a rash. Continue reading

Diapers abosrb all the moisture in your baby’s skin so be sure to use a diaper rash cream. Though Himalaya diaper rash cream is very good for daily use, I found a nice nappy rash cream made by curatiohealthcare.

Im sure your surprised how people here are big fans of curatio products, because its so effective.

The B4 Nappi cream is a chalky thick cream which has to be applied before nappy changes. I use it twice mornings after bath and once in the evening after diaper change.

The cream sticks to the skin hence it does not wash off easily or even with wet wipes. So very little goes a long way.

I find this effective in protecting my baby, but I dont have experience if this cures rashes fast and effectively.

Update: Though this product was effective it tanned my babys nappy area, it darkens the skin.

Hamdard Rogan Badam Shirin

BY Jaishri

hamdard

This is one oil which is a must have in all homes with kids. It works as an excellent massage oil.

They even suggest feeding kids (not babies), a spoon of almond oil (mixed with milk) to enhance memory. Almond oil is an age old beauty treatment product.

From their website:

Hamdard brings you all goodness of almond in the form of Roghan Badam Shirin. It is 100% pure almond oil made from the finest quality sweet almonds, using processes that are GMP and ISO9001:2008/HACCP certified. Unlike similar products available in the market, we at Hamdard use only almonds of one particular type- Maghz Badam – which imparts consistency to taste, colour and efficacy of Roghan Badam Shirin. Continue reading

• Good for heart.
• Fights dandruff.
• Keeps body warm in winter.
• Nourishes skin.
• Helps build stronger bones.
• Good for infants.

Pros:

  • Do try this oil for massaging your infants, you will surely like it as its a multipurpose oil.
  • When its very cold, I apply some oil on my baby’s feet to keep her warm. I use it as a hair oil and it helped in cradle cap issues.
  • Also, for all you tired moms its good for your dark circles.
  • The oil is quite pricy, it costs around 299 RS for 200 ml, which makes it one of the most expensive baby massage oils in the market.
  • But one bottle will last for a month. Its a very mild smelling product or rather I would say its almost fragrance free.

Cons: They should start using plastic bottles for packaging as its very difficult to use glass bottles with a baby around.

Review of Himalaya baby massage oil

By Arathi

himalaya oil2

According to me it is a must to massage babies with some oil before bath. This really prevents their delicate skin from drying up with the water in the bath. Oil massage can be started after 15-20 days of baby’s birth.

Himalaya massage oil is great during all seasons. It’s very light, and known for enhancing the complexion of babies. It is infused with Olive Oil and Winter Cherry acetate. Continue reading

It works well on dry skin but I’m not sure about babies who have eczema.

I don’t agree with the “improves complexion” claim, but it does brighten up the baby’s skin.

It’s light and easy to wash off.

I used this for a long time till I found almond oil. But I alternate both.

Reasonably priced at around Rs 100.

Availability can be an issue.

How to choose a good baby oil for massage

By Arathi

IMG_1385

Baby massage is one of the most important steps in grooming the baby. Baby skin is very sensitive to the environment and baby oil protects the delicate skin of babies.

What more can we ask if these oils enhance the texture and glow in the skin of our little ones.

Again as we parents we would have been showered with opinions and comments on what to use and what not. So here is a summary of the products I used and what Im using now.

I started off with Johnson baby oil, Johnson baby oil is a mineral oil and it gets absorbed very quickly into the skin. I found my baby tanning a lot with this oil. Continue reading

Next we moved to Dabur Lal tail, it was a suggestion from my neighbor. It is mainly composed of sesame oil. It does not dry the skin but produces too much heat and my baby developed boils. Hence I stopped.

Update : It works very well during winters.

Olive oil also started tanning my baby skin and again it is not cooling and did not work during summers. But its excellent for the hair.

Then we moved to natural products such as ghee and butter. But my doc asked us to discontinue as it blocks the skin pores and milk cream has bacteria.

Then we tried Himalaya massage oil, it was one oil which we liked a lot. It is not too greasy, does not do any damage to the skin. Though it has olive oil, it really worked and brightened up the skin.

himalaya oil

So after we got bored with Himalaya oil, and also we found it very difficult to find stores selling this oil, we moved to almond oil.

We started off with pure sweet almond oil called hamdard roghan badam shirin. And this was one excellent product. Non greasy, easy to wash off. Since its edible, we were not scared if the baby licks a bit of the oil. My baby has glowing skin from when we started using this oil. *touchwood*

Sometimes when my baby’s body gets too heaty, (we get to know if we see a small boil or two in her body) we use coconut oil. Again its very cooling and feels so pure. I find it a little difficult to wash off. But its very good. Heat the oil before use. I use parachute pure coconut oil.

Ill review both these oils in a separate posts.

Home remedy for cradle cap in babies

cradle cap

Cradle cap occurs due to many reasons; please read wiki for more, I’m not a medical expert so I won’t comment much on this.

But they say it occurs because of some leftover hormones in the baby’s body. I also felt weather was playing a major role in increasing the cradle cap.
Ok let me add some background here. My baby was born with beautiful hair or rather a head full of hair. We hired a massage lady to massage my baby and bathe her.

One thing the lady used to do was, put loads of powder on my baby’s head after bath. She felt that it absorbed all the water and help in drying soon. I would like to tell anyone doing this a big NO. Don’t apply anything on the baby’s head after bath. You can apply oil on the next day. Continue reading

Some people also use turmeric on the soft spots of the head to prevent infection, which is also a myth.
All this blocks the pores in the scalp and worsens cradle cap.

My baby’s scalp started flaking and she lost lots of hair in the process.
Cradle cap is usually not itchy.
So what I did was I applied coconut oil on her hair and would let it soak for a while. Then I used to brush off the flakes and hair that would come off with the flakes.

Later wash her hair and after drying, I would apply Cutisoft ointment. It’s a hydrocortisone acetate cream which costs about 20-30 RS. I stopped using any hair oil during this process. In one week cradle cap vanished.

After cradle cap has gone, do apply oil daily or every alternate days like before else the scalp will dry, this is not necessary during summers.

P.S : Consult your doctor before using the ointment.

Review of spoo shampoo

IMG_1114

If you have read my previous posts you would have figured out that Im a fan of curatio products.

These products are dermatological tested.

The shampoo is very mild and it does not burn the eyes of my baby. Lathers well and washes off all the oil in one wash. They claim to be a tear free shampoo.

Pros:

  • It washes off very well.
  • The shampoo itself is of very thin and runny texture hence easy to use
  • Does not burn or sting the eyes.
  • Works very well for cradle cap.

Cons:

  • Availability can be an issue. You may need to order. Curatio products are making rounds around any dermatologist clinics so you can check in any medical store near them.

Price: I need to check the price as I received a physician sample from a friend. But I can tell you that very little shampoo is enough for every wash.

Hope this post helped you.. Please Like our Facebook page for regular updates. Thankyou!

Review of TediBar soap

IMG_1116
Like I mentioned in my previous post, after a lot of reviews, trial and error sessions, I finalized on tedibar soap for my little one.

This soap made me gain trust on the brand and now I also use their shampoo and nappy rash cream. Ill review these in my future posts.

The soap is made by curatiohealthcare. Continue reading

It has the same pH of normal skin and hence it protects the skin from fungal and bacterial infections.

IMG_1117

Pros:

  • Works like a dream, you can see your baby skin glow in a week.
  • pH is even less than neutral hence same as skin pH.
  • Works in all climate conditions
  • Very mild fragrance
  • Soap lasts for quite a number of washes
  • A very nice soap stand comes with the soap. It prevents soap from sticking to the soapdish

Cons

Might be a little expensive for some, costs around 100 Rs for one bar of soap. But lasts for a long time.

Its a must buy soap for babies and best in the market.
