Sitting at a desk for one official work or schoolwork or just lazing around on the sofa, binge-watching the favorite series on OTT platforms, definitely takes a toll on your health, especially the posture and the alignment of the body are the few amongst others.

How Bad Posture And Alignment Affects Your Health 

The bad posture can lead to severe health issues, which includes indigestion, cardiovascular disorders, curved spine, which will eventually lead to backache. 

According to the bad posture not only affects one’s physical health but also mental wellbeing, which results in social inferiority complex. 

Due to continuous sitting or, rather say, slouching, one posture is affected, which results in the change in the way people perceive personality in general.

Yoga To Correct Body Posture And Alignment 

Practising Yoga or Yoga poses is one of the easiest and the most sustainable approach to correcting body posture and alignment by combating the negative effects of sitting and other things that contribute to bad posture. 

To be specific, the heart opener yoga poses that invert the hunched back and shoulders which are mainly caused by continuous sitting, help immensely to correct the body posture and alignments. 

However, one should note that any yoga poses should be practised after consulting the doctors and, most importantly, under the able guidance of the yoga instructor, either online or offline. 

5 Yoga Poses To Correct Bad Posture And Alignment

Downward Facing Dog or Adho Mukha Svanasana 

Adho Mukha Svanasana or Down Dog is one of the first yoga poses that anyone learns in yoga, as it is the easiest of them all. However, it should be noted that this asana is benefitting our body in several ways. 

It not only strengthens the arms, core and shoulders core but also opens up the hamstrings, chest, and back, thereby playing a huge role in improving the body posture.

Hero Pose Or Virasan 

‘Vira’ means Hero, and ‘Asana’ means Pose, hence the name Virasana. It is the most ancient yoga postures that are practised while meditating or doing pranayama. 

As the spinal cord is aligned in the upright position, practising this asana helps in improving the body posture and alignment. 

Camel Pose Or Ustrasana 

Ustrasana or the Camel pose is one of the intermediate level yoga poses, which mainly emphasizes Anahata chakra. The Camel pose mainly enhances the flexibility of the body while strengthening the muscles. 

 This deep backbend yoga pose will reverse the hunching of a back that happens due to prolonged sitting. 

Cobra Pose Or Bhujangasana 

Bhujangasana, the word comes from ‘Bhujanga’ meaning Cobra and ‘Asana’ meaning yoga pose. Hence this asana is also commonly known as Cobra pose. It is also a back-bending asana that is performed along with other yoga poses while practising Surya Namaskar. 

The Cobra Pose opens the back and shoulders while strengthening the upper back and the shoulders, thereby correcting the body posture and alignment.  

Urdhwa Dhanurasaan 

Dhanurasana or the bow pose is one of the heart-opening yoga poses. If practised correctly, it relieves the body from all the ill effects of prolonged sitting. However, the proper warm-up should be done before practising this yoga pose. 

One can practice all of these yoga poses together or start by choosing one or two out of them, whichever feels comfortable to you, and proceed further as time passes by.
