baby rash

By Admin,

Though there are things you can do to avoid it, for most babies, diaper rash is an inevitability. As a parent, it’s the way you handle diaper rash that matters.

Now, conventional wisdom says that you should throw some baby powder on your baby’s bottom and hope for the best. However, this doesn’t always get the job done. Not to mention, baby powders can contain some abrasive ingredients.

Some parents turn to home remedies instead. Are you looking for some home remedies for diaper rash? We’ve got you covered!

Breast Milk

Did you know that breast milk contains anti-inflammatory antibodies? It can be applied to human skin in order to reduce inflammation.

This, of course, makes it a solid remedy for relieving diaper rash. After all, what is diaper rash other than inflamed skin?

All you have to do is pour a bit of breast milk on the affected area and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Once it’s dried, rinse it off with water, dry the affected area, and put on a new diaper.

If you do this consistently, you should start to notice a difference. However, you must also be diligent in changing your child’s diapers promptly. Allowing your child to sit in moisture will just exacerbate the problem.

Coconut Oil

Another home remedy you might consider is coconut oil. Coconut oil possesses natural anti-bacterial properties and is capable of disinfecting dirty skin. Because of this, it’s perfect for treating diaper rash.

To use coconut oil in the treatment of diaper rash, incorporate it into your diaper changes. First, wash your baby’s bottom with warm water. Then, apply a tablespoon or so of coconut oil, allowing it to sit until it’s absorbed and dried.

There’s no need to wash the coconut off once it’s dried. Just put on a new diaper and be ready to apply it again during the next change.

Oatmeal Bath

Loaded with antioxidants and possessing anti-inflammatory properties, oatmeal is great for treating rashes of all kinds. A diaper rash is certainly no exception to this.

To use oatmeal for diaper rash purposes, all you have to do is add it to a bath. Take around a tablespoon of dried oatmeal and add it to a tub of warm water. Then, bathe your baby in the bath for 5 to 10 minutes, allowing the antioxidants to soak into his or her skin.

Once this time has elapsed, get your child out and pat him or her dry with a towel. Make sure not to scrub, as scrubbing can exacerbate the rash.

Cornstarch

If you’re looking for a replacement for baby powder, you could try cornstarch. Cornstarch is effective in drying out moisture, meaning that it can take the place of baby powder during a diaper change.

Before applying any cornstarch, make sure to clean your baby’s bottom with a wet wipe. It’s vital that you remove any existing bacteria, as bacteria are the primary cause of the rash.

Failure to eliminate bacteria could result in it becoming trapped under the cornstarch. This, of course, would only serve to worsen the problem.

Note, it might also be a good idea to coat new diapers with cornstarch. This way, your baby’s bottom will remain dry for the duration of the diaper’s use.

Apple Cider Vinegar

In the vast majority of cases, diaper rash arises due to the existence of urine. Because urine is alkaline, it causes the skin to burn, resulting in inflammation known as diaper rash.

For this reason, it’s wise to use substances that neutralize the alkalinity of urine. One such substance is apple cider vinegar. By applying apple cider vinegar to your baby’s bottom during diaper changes, you will greatly reduce inflammation, ultimately staving off diaper rash.

Generally, a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar will do the trick. Just mix it with water and give your baby’s bottom a good wipe-down. If you wish, you could even add it to his or her baths.

Honey and Chamomile Tea

Another home remedy you might consider to treat diaper rash is honey and chamomile tea. Both honey and chamomile tea have antiseptic properties and are capable of eliminating bacteria quickly. As such, they can greatly reduce the effects of diaper rash.

The best way to use these two substances is to add a teaspoon of honey to two cups of chamomile tea. Then, once the mixture has been made, apply it to the affected area once or twice every day.

If you can, allow the mixture to sit on your baby’s bottom without the diaper on. Some diaper-free time will provide your baby with relief, allowing his or her rash to heal.

Cloth Diapers

Some babies develop diaper rash due to the sensitivity of their skin. As such, a roughly-textured disposable diaper could cause them to take on diaper rash.

Fortunately, there’s an easy way to get around this: use cloth diapers instead. Cloth diapers are much softer than disposable diapers, making them much more forgiving on a baby’s bottom.

If your baby’s skin is particularly sensitive, you should combat the problem by purchasing some of the best cloth diapers on the market. There is no shortage of cloth diapers available to you.

There are All Kinds of Home Remedies for Diaper Rash

In truth, there are all kinds of home remedies for diaper rash; the ones above comprise only a small sample of the bunch. If none of these work for you, you’re advised to get out there and ask fellow parents about their diaper rash remedies. Someone is sure to have an idea that works.
