Foods to Include and Avoid in Pregnancy (Diabetics)

Foods Permitted

  • Black tea/coffee
  • Lime/tomato juice w/o sugar
  • Green leafy veggies and salads

Limited Intake

  • Cereals and pulses
  • Maida and rava
  • Fruits 100 gms- 1 fruit/few pieces a day
  • fruits like guava, watermelon, orange, papaya, apple, sweetlime, melon
  • Milk less than half liter
  • Refined oil- 3-4 tsp per day
  • Non veg only once a week or egg white twice a week

Avoid

  • Sugar, honey, jaggery, glucose, jam
  • Sweets like laddu, burfi, payasam, desserts
  • cornflour, custard, arrowroot
  • Bakery produts
  • fats such as ghee, butter, coconut oil
  • roots and tubers such as potato, yam, colocasia, tapioca, sweet potato
  • big bananas, pomegranate, mango, grapes, sapota, custard apple, wood apple, jackfruit
  • dry fruits
  • horlicks, bournvita

Recommended

  • high fiber diet
  • Whole pulses like grams, germinated pulses
  • Whole wheat flour
  • 3 meals, 3 snacks
