Causes of deodorant stains

Due to sultry summer weather, the use of deodorants is mandatory. However, too much deodorant can cause chalky white marks on clothes. Now, the main question is why. What causes deodorant stains? Let’s jump into a detailed answer.

1.          Anti-perspiring ingredients: To prevent bodies from sweating a lot, deodorants use antiperspirant ingredients like aluminum. They react with salts in sweat, causing some chalky white marks to appear. The same reaction causes yellow stains on white fabric.

2.          Not drying it completely: It is advisable to dry out the deodorant completely before putting on clothes, which maximum people fail to maintain. Wet deodorants will cause the stain marks to darken immediately.

3.          Too much use of deodorant: Some people are quite finicky with deodorant use and tend to spray deodorants all the time. Too much of deodorant use will harm fabrics and will cause white and yellow stains later, which are otherwise hard to remove quickly.

4.          Application on wet skin: Applying deodorants directly on damp skin is a complete no-no. It will fasten up the reaction procedure of salt within deodorants, causing the stain marks to appear on clothes. So, it is one reason for deeper stain marks on clothes after applying deodorants.

5.          Apply deodorants right after shaving: Swiping deodorant right after shaving can cause darker spots as your body starts to sweat more at that time. So, it will react immediately with the aluminum salt ingredients present in the deodorants, causing darker stains.

6.          Layering deodorants: Layering more than one deodorant on top of each other will cause a dense layer of aluminum salt under armpits. It will result in darker spots, which you need to avoid.

7.          Use of aerosols: In some of the water-free aerosol formulas of deodorants, aluminum salts are available in powdered forms. It becomes easily visible on dark clothes and even on skin.

8.          Use of roll-ons: Even though aluminum salts can dissolve in water as with roll-ons, the white marks can still appear once the water is evaporated completely, leaving those chalky marks.

9.          A mix of skin lipids and sweat: A combination of sweat, sebum, and skin lipids can cause white and yellow stains on clothes. The active antiperspirant ingredients mix with sweat and lipid can darken the marks.

10.        Minerals in tap water: The minerals or trace elements present in tap water can also cause the deodorant stain marks to darken when you try washing your clothes. Even the fabric composition is responsible to some extent to darken the marks, and simple washing won’t work then.

Ways to prevent deodorant stains:

No one wants the chalky white marks or yellow stains on their clothes. They want cleaner clothes without any embarrassing deodorant stains. There are some ways in which you can prevent those deodorant stains from taking place. Learn those simple points now.

•            At first, you need to pick and choose the antiperspirant deodorant spray or stick with a unique formula. The formula will prevent yellow stain and white marks too. You need to apply the stick on dry skin only and wait for it to dry up completely before wearing the clothes.

•            One simple and good trick to avoid the white marks is by folding over the hem of the garment before slipping it right on. Even if you do catch a mark, it will remain on the inside of the fabric. So, you can unroll the fold and the dress will come out unscathed.

•            The basic piece of advice will always be to wait for the antiperspirant stick to dry up completely before getting dressed. Wait till the last minute before putting on the clothes as that helps in minimizing the risk of white marks or yellow stains on white clothing.
