By Prerna,

For the past 5 months I have been drinking Kokum Juice twice a day and have lost 5 kgs, so I thought Ill share with all of you moms. Kokum or kodampuli is a type of tamrind grown in the Malabar regions of India. I have seen my mom using it in curries since birth but I never cared to find out more about kokum.

Kokum or Garcinia indica is a close relative of Garcinia Cambogia which is used in expensive weightloss pills, im sure you would have seen Ads on Facebook. When I enquired about this Garcinia Combogia pills, I was shocked to know that one box costs Rs 5000 and One bottle of Kokum Pulp costs only Rs 50.

Kokum contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA) which supresses appetite and burns fat. It has cooling affect and is a must to drink during summers. Usually these concentrates contains sugar, try to get the ones that do not contain sugar. Add a tsp to one glass of water and have before meals, if you find it sour add some salt.

Kokum has natural antioxidants and is helpful in treating cancer. It helps with indigestion and allergies too. kokum has a lot of health benefits. We always ignore the natural medicines available in India, but the western market seems to be adapting it better than us. So moms start kokum juice this summer. It can also be given to kids.

If you find it in the whole form, soak it in water for few hours and extract the juice and store in bottles.
