Khus Khus/ poppy seeds is extremely beneficial though many people are scared of it because of the slight sedating property. It has calcium and phosphorous along with magnesium which is very good for the bones. Its also known to prevent mouth ulcers, induce sleep, prevent constipation and is very good for the skin.
This recipe uses only 1 tsp of khus khus as its been made for kids, if you are feeding infants, dont use dried coconut.
Ingredients:
Almonds 10 – soaked in water and skin peeled
Cashews 10
Dried coconut 1 tsp
Khus khus/poppy seeds 1 tsp soaked in water for 1 hour
Milk half litre
Jaggery – 1/2 – 3/4 cup
Water – 1/2 cup
Elaichi powder – a pinch
Procedure:
Step 1
Grind almonds, cashews, khus khus and dried coconut in a mixer and keep aside.
Heat half litre milk on a low flame till it reduces to half. Turn off the flame and add the ground mixture along with cardamom and keep aside.
Step 2
Now heat jaggery with water till it forms into a nice golden syrup which looks like honey. Turn off the flame and keep it aside.
Now when both the liquids are cool mix them together and place it back on heat on a low flame for few mins and turn off.
Your healthy kheer is ready. We generally serve it with pooris in my house. Ill share the recipe of my special pooris in the next post.
*Its very essential to mix jaggery and the milk mixture only when both are cold, else the kheer will curdle*
