Skin and Haircare During Holi

By Anjjali,

Tips for skin/hair before playing holi:

  • Oil your hair well before you start playing. Apply lots of coconut oil or olive oil  to protect your hair from harsh colors.
  • Also apply some oil behind your ears, ear lobes and nails.
  • You can further protect your nails by covering them with nail polish of any dark colour.
  • Put lip balm or lipstick on your lips to protect those as well.
  • Use a toner to close the pores on your face before you head out. This way, you reduce the chances of color going in too deep.Don’t forget to wear waterproof sunscreen 30 minutes prior followed by a moisturizer before you step out for a day in the sun!
  • Wear clothes that cover most of your body. These clothes should be in a lightweight, easy-to-dry material. Avoid heavy fabrics like denim that don’t dry easily.
  • It’s a good idea to wear a thick scarf or bandana to cover your hair.
  • Don’t wear lenses when you go out to play!

Tips for skin/hair after playing holi:

  • Dust off the dry color before you hit the shower
  • Clean your face using cotton dabbed in moisturizing cream or oil/milk followed by a cleanser or scrub. By no way do excessive scrubbing or rubbing as they damage your skin and can cause irritation.
  • Wash your hair using a mild shampoo, but don’t overuse the shampoo. If the color doesn’t come off your scalp in one try, just let it stay on and shampoo again in a day or two.

  • All that color and shampoo will tend to dry out your scalp. Definitely use a conditioner after shampooing.
  • Remember it may take few days to get rid of whole color, don’t try to remove the color from whole body at the first go.
  • If your hair becomes too dry, then a hot oil massage accompanied by a hot towel treatment should be performed for next few days or go for hair spa.
Wishing all my dear friends a colorful and joyous Holi. Hope the above tips are useful to all of you.

Review of BumChum Leather Booties

baby shoe

Sorry moms was away for a bit, I was a little busy with my LO’s birthday.  Do watch out for more updates on the event, my leanings, do and don’ts and much more.

Today I’m excited to review a great product that my LO wears regularly which frees her from wearing socks during summer. If you’re a mom who loves your kid’s bare foot but hesitate to let them be because of the environment we live in, you should try these booties for your kids.

When I was hunting for a good pair of shoes for Maanvi, I found shoes with big soles made for kids who walk. My LO is still learning how to walk on her own and slips badly because we always cover her legs with socks. Now with these booties she enjoys climbing and does not slip.

The leather is so soft and flexible making it very comfortable. I have never seen anything like this before for babies other than socks, woolen booties or shoes with big soles.

Here is my review:

Pros:

  • Babies can be free from socks especially now during summer. Also there is plenty of room for air to circulate.
  • It mimics bare foot, so makes climbing, crawling, jumping and every little trick easy.
  • Easy to clean, just rinsing in water is enough.
  • The fit is good as it has elastic around ankles.
  • Available in many colors, patterns and sizes (upto 3 years)
  • Promotes the development of foot muscles

Cons:

Price is around Rs 900 but they have an offer now, the booties are available for Rs 700+ making it a tad bit pricey, but the price is alright for the genuine leather used in making these booties.

You can buy these booties here.

8 Tips to fix Hormone Imbalance and Mood Swings

As women we have all been through a phase where we were moody, depressed, and doing all the wrong things uncontrollably. Later we all regret this phase but the truth is that it was not your fault, so its best not to think back and move on. The people who really love you will bear you though this phase.

During these times we generally go back to old memories and think of all the negative people in our lives. Its best to avoid thinking of unwanted people and be aware of what your going through.

Hormones are generally all messed up after a baby and its best to stay as quiet as possible and push through this stage.

Why this Imbalance?

Hormones are the chemical messengers and they move through the entire body. The main hormones producing centers are the thyroid glands and endocrine glands. So our lifestyle changes, lack of exercise, pregnancy are a few factors that affect these glands.

What are the side effects?

You will experience fatigue, acne, pigmentation, weight gain, poor libido, lack of concentration, depression, extreme anxiety to name a few. Continue reading

How can I fix it:

  1. Sine its both a physical and mental issue the first thing would be to stay quiet and calm. Be aware of what your going through and let the time pass. Never be alone and always talk to someone who understands you and has the patience to listen and not react.
  2. Work on your diet, reduce carbohydrates and sugars, increase proteins and good fats in your diet, all natural fats like ( butter, coconut oil, etc)
  3. Increase your vitamin D3 intake, you can take capsules like Ultra D 3 or stand out in the sun.
  4. Include Yam in your diet. Its a good source of progesterone.
  5. Do light exercises or walk everyday. 5 mins of meditation will make a big difference
  6. Sleep well..nothing can fix hormonal imbalance better than a good nights sleep
  7. Reduce caffeine intake in your diet
  8. Take one cod liver oil capsule everyday. It stimulates hormonal  production and has Vitamin A, D, K and Omega 3.

Review of Odomos Naturals Mosquito Repellent Cream

At home we always use my homemade mosquito repellant spray. But since the spray has to be reapplied every 2 hours we were looking for another product when we go outside. You can see the recipe here.

My doctor recommended Odomos Naturals. I have tries Chicco and few other foreign brands but they are very mild for Indian mosquitoes. So we started using this product during my daughters walks especially during evenings.

I did not have much expectations from this product but it turned out to be the opposite. It worked very well outside our house, as there is a lot of open space and my daughter always gets bit by one or two mosquitoes everyday when she goes out for her walks. Though they claim its totally safe for babies, I would recommend you to avoid the face area. Continue reading

We apply it on her hands, legs and a little near the ears. Mosquitoes are attracted to the smell of ear wax and they always loiter around the ear. So always apply some cream near the babies ears. You can even dab a little eucalyptus oil around the ear.

Pros:

  • They claim it has aleovera and citronella.
  • Its endoresed by Natural Integrated Medical Association.
  • The tube is only Rs 40.
  • Its not greasy.

So do try it out and let me know if it works for you.
