Top 5 Kids/Infants Sunscreen Lotions in India and my pick

Img Src

Hi Mommas,

Have you started hunting for a good sunscreen this summer? No Im not talking about you but your kidos. Im sure you dont want to cancel your holiday because of the sun. It is best to protect your little one’s delicate skin from the sun even in water.

Sunscreens are also available for infants but if you keep them covered there is no need for a sunscreen. Too much sunscreen will block the vitamin d inflow into their system.

What should you look for in a sunscreen?

  • Broad spectrum protection, UVA and UVB is always good
  • Minimum of SPF 15, you can select a higher SPF if your going on a holiday.
  • Hypo-allergic and if its made specifically for kids. Do a patch test first and if your using an adult sunscreen always talk to your doctor.
  • Is it water resistance for a beach holiday or they plans to dive into the pool?

You have all types of sunscreens from lotions, creams, gels and sprays. Select what is convenient. Always dab the sunscreen and do not rub. Creams provide maximum protection. So lets start with my list:

Sunscreen:Farlin – Baby Sunscreen Lotion SPF 20

Price: 995

Age group- 6 months plus

Why would I pick this: One of the mildest sunscreen made out of rice extracts.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Sunscreen:Chicco – Sun Milk Baby Moments Milk Spray

Price: 850

Age group- 12 months plus

Why would I pick this: They have both a sunscreen and spray. High protection from UVA and B and contains vitamin E and yay! water resistant too. Continue reading

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Sunscreen:Sunban- has very high SPF starting from 50-100

Price: check at your nearest drugstore (300-500)

Age group- 12 months plus

Why would I pick this: This was recommended by my pediatrician for very high sun protection and it is water resistant. Should be used only at very high temperatures.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Sunscreen:Nivea Sun Kids Sunscreen with SPF 50

Price: 385

Age group- 6 months plus

Why would I pick this: Works very well in water, gets absorbed very quickly. Contains vitamin E and enhances the body’s own sun defense mechanism. I would have definitely selected this one as my best find, but sadly availability is a big big issue. Its not easily available online like the other ones. You need to hunt baby stores.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

My Pick

Sunscreen:Lotus Herbals Sun Kids Sun block Cream SPF 25

Price: 285

Age group- 6 months plus

Why would I pick this: One of the most cost efficient sunscreens in India. I love the smell and its moisturizing effect. It did a great job during our recent holiday. And I would definitely trust a brand that makes products for Indian skin and summers. Lastly its my winner for the availability, you will find it in all health n glow stores and online.

5 Variety Rice Recipes for Kids Lunchbox – Cooking time 5 mins

rice

This post reminds me of my school days. My mom was working, and would always choose quick rice dishes to pack for our lunchbox. If the same dishes were made over weekends she would use Basmathi Rice.

Along with carbohydrates, rice is also rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals. Rice is easy to digest and quick to eat.

I’m providing all the recipes for 1 cup of uncooked rice. Use ghee or oil as per wish. Cook rice before you start.
Add peanuts or cashews while frying the masala for that added crunch.

Pudina/Mint Rice

Grind cloves (3), cinnamon (small piece), mint leaves (1cup), coriander (1/2 cup), curry leaves (1/2 cup), ginger (1/2 inch piece).

In a pan fry 1 chopped onion in oil or ghee, add this mixture and fry for a min with salt. Finally add rice and toss, toss, toss.

Coconut Rice.

In a pan add oil, mustard seeds (1/2 tsp), hing (pinch), urad or channa dal (1/2 tsp), dry red chillies (4-5 broken into pieces) and shredded coconut (1/2 cup) and fry for  a  min.

Finally toss in the cooked rice with some chopped coriander leaves.

Lemon Rice

In a pan add 1/2 tsp mustard, jeera (1/2 tsp), hing (pinch), chopped ginger (optional), 2-3 chopped green chillies, curry leaves, 1-2 chopped onions (optional) and fry.

Now add lemon juice (1 big lemon or 2 small lemons) and 1/2 tsp of turmeric, followed by rice and salt.

Finally add chopped coriander and toss. Continue reading

Tamarind Rice/ Puliyogere

You need to prepare the mix during weekends but store bought puliyogere paste from MTR works very well for us. You just need to mix with rice as per instructions.

Quick Fried Rice

In a pan add oil, to the oil add 1 chopped onion, ginger garlic paste, 2-3 chopped chillies, egg or finely chopped vegetables and fry till veggies cook, now add 1 tsp tomato sauce, 1/2 tsp soya sauce, 1 tsp chilli sauce(optional) and salt.

When oil starts floating mix your rice and finely chopped spring onions and your done.

Hope these recipes help you. Do let us know what goes into your kids lunchbox.

Why am I in love with Babyoye?

During pregnancy when it became difficult for me to physically go out and shop, I switched to online shopping, and that is when I bumped into this website, Babyoye. It’s been more than a year now since I have been shopping from this online store. Like other online stores, Babyoye too provides door delivery, multiple payment options, return and exchange benefits. But what I like most about them is the wide range of products that they offer. When you get everything at one stop online, why go to malls.

What do I buy often?

I guess I have bought something from each of their product sections except books and school stationery; my kid being too young to study. I shop the most from Diapers and Wipes section, Clothes section and Feeding and Nursery section. I buy Huggies diapers from Babyoye on regular basis. I have also used Pampers diapers few times for my baby. Besides diapers and wipes, I also buy baby food from the site. In fact, along with Infant Formula, I have also bought feeding bottles and supported accessories online. These are few things that I need to buy regularly and I find buying these online convenient and affordable. All I need to do is order online and I get my purchased products delivered within 2 days at my home. What better way to shop for a mother like me.

Clothes, Brands and My Favorite

I have also shopped clothes for my baby from Babyoye. They have clothes from popular brands like Benneton Kids, Bugs and Bunny, Gini & Jony, Cucumber and more. They also have few in-house brands like Ollie & I and Pine. Though I have bought clothes from different brands; Cucumber and Gini & Jony are my personal favorites. From vests to socks and tops to dresses, everything is available in the online shop. Before I was this familiar to online shopping, I had a misconception about exchange and return policies. I was skeptical about buying clothes and shoes online for size issues. However, Babyoye interestingly maintains a very friendly exchange policy. Besides, the size chart makes shopping clothes easier. Also, after the first shopping instance, you become familiar of all the sizes. Continue reading

Customer reviews do help

Babyoye has a good feature and I would definitely like to highlight the same. Against each product, they list out customer reviews that help me build confidence about buying a product. Besides, product description and features highlight the details about a product. After shopping from Babyoye for quite few times and becoming a regular customer of the site, I myself have written a product review on their site. When feedback from other mommies have helped me out, I thought my feedback too will be useful for some.

I would definitely like to recommend Babyoye for online baby shopping; especially for diapers, baby food and clothes.

Review of Nova Travel Cooker

I have never promoted a product so much before. It was a life saver during our recent trip and I think everyone with a baby or kids should own one.

You can cook anything from rice, maggi, milk etc. I made porridge and rice with this. I even made tea once using the same. The cooker is easy to carry. Though the image shows two components the lower half will go into the cooker and you will be carrying this as one small unit. Continue reading

Really sorry I had to lend my cooker to a friend so could  not update my own images. The cooker is light and can be easily cleaned because of the steel. The food heats up quickly unlike other electric heaters. It has a sturdy lid with a lock which makes cooking faster.

Overall good value for money, cost ranges from Rs 1700-2000 based on where you purchase the cooker.

Baby Fall Whats Normal??

Img Src

I hate to say this but my LO has fallen off the bed 3 times. Its one of those moments, where you feel so guilty and want to bang your head to the ground. Most of the times the falls are normal and even a bump can be treated by rubbing some ice. Always make sure your bed is cushioned on all sides and someone is  there to monitor the baby.

When should you panic:

  • If the fall is from a height which is more than 3-4 feet.
  • If the baby falls on a hard object or when a sharp object falls on the baby and there is bleeding.

What should you do:

  • Be calm and distract the child, console the child.
  • Check for bumps, redness, bruises. Only if the bumps are too big rush to the doctor. Most bumps can be treated with ice.
  • Check if your baby is able to move all her limbs properly.

Warning signs:

Just rush your child to the closest hospital when you see these signs:

  • If the baby is unconscious.
  • If they have difficulty in breathing or unusual breathing.
  • Continuous vomiting.
  • Not able to see properly, if the eyes are disoriented.
  • Liquid or blood from the ears.
  • Skin color change.
  • Difficulty sitting or moving.

Recipes for Babies and Toddlers during a Vacation

0[2]

During our recent vacation I carried a travel cooker with us which was very useful and handy, I almost cooked every meal for my little one with that. Though the owners of the property where we stayed, were ready to offer us their kitchen, I was quite happy with the cooker. We made sure the room had a refrigirator. But later realised that most of my ingredients dont need one.

Ingredients we carried.

  • Rice that was slightly powdered: Soaked, sundried and powdered coarsely
  • Dal that was soaked overnight, sundried and powdered coarsely
  • For pongal or khichdi- (ginger, curry leaves, jeera and pwppercorns) in a small zip pouch
  • For Sambar Rice-(MTR Sambar mix)
  • Ghee
  • Homemade Cereal Powder (recipe here)
  • Jaggery/Sugar and Salt
  • Flavored Yogurt (Danone as my daughter only likes this brand)
  • Biscuits
  • MIlk (tetra packed ones that will stay for 1 month)

What we cooked:

We cooked the rice and dal with water and used the khichdi mix once. Another time we used the sambar powder. So we we did one for lunch we would do the other for dinner.

Breakfast would be the ragi cereal Continue reading

For snacktime it was the yogurt and biscuits dipped in milk

Other variations that you can try:

You can mix rice with MTR puliogere mix

You can make simple curd rice

Maggi

Upma can be made with the khichdi mix, just fry semolina in oil and pack it in a zip pouch.

Beach Holiday with a Baby

sketch

Hello Dear Readers,
Many of you pinged me asking where I was, Thankyou. I was off to Goa on a vacation with my little one. Since I was all nervous because it was her first holiday and first time travel by flight, I did not find time to blog. I  also had a lot of preparation to do.

Overall, I should tell you that we had a great time and with good planning you are sure to enjoy with your little ones. So do watch out this section for more on what we packed, what we cooked for her, her flight journey etc in the next few days. Continue reading

This was my 4th trip to Goa. I should tell you that I love Goa, the fact that you can wear what you want, the shacks, food, shopping and everything. We hired a bike and wandered around with it. So we would go out early mornings and evenings as afternoons were too hot. Hiring a vehicle is a good idea as you can come back to your hotel everytime your little one gets cranky.

In the beach they hire beach beds for Rs 100 an hour, its crazy everything is money there. But then its good to rest with your baby under the big umbrella and watch the beach. Dont forget your sunscreen. The shacks are awesome to grab food but you need to know what to order so google, google n google. I just remembered the idea ad “no ullu banaoin”.

Calangute and Baga are really full, so we chose Candolim beach during most of our trip as its calm, quiet and very clean. Do try the “Chiken tikka wrap at Alex’s shack. The eateries around Candolim are the best, you have so many varieties better than all the other beaches that I have seen.

We stayed at a beautiful Indo Portuguese home called Quinta Da Graca which was around 3 km from the beach. But we still chose the place as it was quiet and beautiful and a rating of 5 from tripadvisor is not a joke. Its a beautiful house and the hosts are friendly and warm people who take great care in serving you well. The rooms are spacious with all your needs and a spacious balcony. We enjoyed the calm and quiet ambiance and its extremely clean. So my Lo could do all her crawling and the fridge too was handy to store all her food. They do offer you their kitchen to use, but I carried a very cute electric cooker with me which I will be reviewing very soon.

So I have lots more coming up… So when are you planning your beach vacation??…

Review of Baby Food Warmer Bowl

bowl

Hello Mommies,

Here is another interesting product that we got as a gift for my daughters birthday. A super food warmer bowl. We are totally in love with the bowl, as it keeps the food warm throughout the meal and also is very useful during travel.

The usage is very simple, all you need to do is open a nozzle and pour hot water, close the nozzle and then fill in the food. This will keep your food warm. Be careful not to use boiling water.

Another great feature is the suction at the bottom, which can hold on to any surface because of the rubber ring.So it will work very well for toddlers too. Continue reading

The set also has a folk and spoon which is great.

But the only sad part is that I dont know the price. I think its available online on amazon and do checkout baby stores. My friend got it from a baby store.

If you see this post, thankyou so much Maru :)
