Keeping the kids occupied in the summer break is quite a challenge for parents. Joining a few camps maybe a good thing but after a few weeks doing the same thing becomes a bore for them. My 6 year old needs some new activity every now and then to get pepped up . So we thought of trying our hands at baking some yummy goodies. We baked Chez Jay’s   https://www.facebook.com/chezjayfood Choco chip cookies on one day and our own version of brownies another day. The little chef was so excited that he gobbled up most of them and left just a few for us to sample.

We followed a few simple steps from the program “I can Cook” on Cbeebies :

–          Wash hands before starting

–          Get all the ingredients ready

–          Keep a napkin/towel handy

–          Mix, Whisk, stir

–          Take help of an adult to use the hot oven

–          Clean up after you are done

Now here is the recipe for Chez jay’s Cookies(slightly modified) :

You need:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • ¾ cup Powdered sugar
  • ¾ cup choco chips / broken choco pieces
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup soft butter
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1tsp vanilla essence
  • ½ tsp salt

Steps: Ask an adult to preheat the oven to 180C.

Take a large and deep bowl , add butter and sugar , whisk till smooth. You can use an electric /hand mixer .

Add beaten egg, salt, vanilla essence. Stir

Sift flour and baking powder. Add to the above mixture alongwith choco chips.

Mix well.

Get the baking tray ready with the cookie sheet or liners. Scoop a spoonful of the mix on the sheet ,leave a gap between 2 cookies as they will rise and become big on baking.

Bake for 10-12 mins .

Cook and serve
