Updated a better picture from Reks: she washed the ghee 20-25 times and the yellow tint is cause she added a drop of vanilla essense (great idea!!!) This one is very similar to TBS body butter.

Many moms have been constantly asking me tips on protecting their kid’s skin from this deadly winter. So I found this lovely recipe from one of my favorite blogs. After I did my bit of research, I got to know about this wonderful product from Ayurveda called “100 x washed Ghee” or “Shata Dhaut Ghrita “. I know the thought of ghee will give you a greasy feeling, but you need to make this to believe that this product is silky, non greasy and odorless.

Traditionally mantras were chanted and holy water was used to wash ghee, and this whole process was done using a copper vessel. But since I did not have all these provisions, I used the version provided by Tanveer. Funnily these recipes are used and sold in the West, and we purchase Forest essentials and luxury Ayurvedic products that can be easily made at home. Its a great anti-ageing cream for moms and for babies and kids you can use this as a multipurpose cream, even on their face. The moisturizer penetrates through all 7 layers of skin. So I hope all this is inspiring enough to get your hands moving.

What you need?

  • A big bowl or vessel for mixing (if you have a copper vessel nothing like it), 2 tsp organic ghee or as much as you like, equal quantity of water (clean water at room temperature), an egg beater or whipper. I used Organic India Ghee.

Keep in mind: Turn on the TV and make sure you have something interesting playing for a hour as its going to take you one hour to make this.

The ghee expands 4-5 times, 2 tsp gave me half a cup of cream (the display picture has only half the quantity), so make sure your mixing vessel is very large.

Procedure:

Add 2 tsp ghee and 2 tsp water to a bowl and start whipping or beating for 5-10 mins till the water is fully incorporated and you see a frothy white cream. Add 2 tsp of water again and whip for 5 mins. Now you will see water separating, drain it out.

Repeat this 10 times (if you can 100 times.. ufff), yes its painstaking but worth all the effort. Finally, drain out all the water (you can use a sieve), but I just drained it from the sides. Now the ghee would have changed its color to white.

Your fluffy, silky cream, is ready to use. You can even use it as a diaper rash cream. If you use pure organic cows ghee, the end product will have no odor. You can also use a few drops of essential oil for your own use (not for babies). This is one of the best multipurpose creams I have even used.

Are you planning to make this lovely cream for your family? Do let me know if you have questions.
