chole new

For me weekends is all about comfort food, I like to make something simple and quick so that I can relax. Chole is my favorite one pot meal. I follow this simple method where I prepare it in a pressure cooker. Its a great recipe for your busy mornings and for your kids lunch box. If your lazy to make rotis, bread or bun is also great to accompany with it.

Ingredients:

  • Channa soaked overnight – 1or 1 1/2 cups
  • Onion – 2
  • Tomatoes- 3
  • Ginger Garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Green Chilli – 1
  • Chole masala- 1tsp (I use Everest)
  • Chilli Powder – 1tsp
  • Coriander Powder- 1tsp
  • Chopped coriander
  • Oil
  • Salt
  • Sugar (optional)

Procedure:

In a pressure cooker add oil, when the oil heats up add onions and fry till golden brown. The color of the onions will contribute to the overall color of the chole. Now add ginger garlic paste and roast for 1 min, Then add your chopped tomatoes and fry.

To this add all your masala powders, salt and a pinch of sugar and fry till you see oil on the sides.
Now add chana and the whole green chilli (do not chop) and coriander. Mix well and add twice the quantity of water based on your channa and close the lid. Pressure cook for 3 whistles.

Once the pressure goes down open the cooker and again cook this chole till you get your required consistency.

Chole tastes best after a few hours when all the masala is absorbed.
