sprout

Hi Ladies,

I would like to thank my darling friend Saps and her very sweet mom in law for sharing this recipe with me. It has really helped my little one gain some weight and she quiet likes the taste of it. It can even be given to grown up kids. Its really healthy and filled with proteins. Sprouting helps remove the gases in the grains.

It takes over 2 days to make this powder but its worth it. Give this porridge to your kids in the morning as it can be a little heavy.

So here is the recipe:

Ingredients:

Ragi – 1 cup

All the other ingredients 1/4 cup

  • Rice
  • Green Moong Dal
  • Bajra
  • Cashew
  • Pista
  • Almonds
  • Fried Gram
  • Peanuts

Day one:

Wash ragi, bajra and green moong dal and soak in water for 8-12 hours. After that drain water and let it sprout. For sprouting tie the grains in a wet cloth it will spout fast. else you can leave it in a container, just remember to splash water once in a while.

Day two:

Wash rice and add to the sprouts, now let it dry in a cool place in your house. Sun-drying is the best but make sure you cover with a net.

Tip: To dry quickly place under fan and on newspaper.

Soak almonds, pistachios, cashews and peanuts in water for 1 to 2 hours. Peel off the skin of these nuts. And let this dry separately.

Now for the frying part:

  • Dry roast dried sprouts and rice mix and keep aside
  • Dry roast nuts and keep aside
  • Last dry roast fried gram, for very less time as its already roasted.

Now powder all the roasted cereals, rice and fried gram pass through a sieve.

Again powder nuts separately  and sieve (skip sieving for kids above 8 months). Mix the two and now you have your powder.

You can store it for 1 month. In my version I skipped using ragi as I already have sprouted ragi powder with me. reviewed here.

But next time ill add ragi too as I dont want to use ready made powders.

For porridge:

You need to add desired quantity of powder to water and boil for 2-3 mins.

The consistence is totally based on your child’s wish.

You can add salt, sugar or even milk or milk powder to this mix.

Do let me know if you have any queries.

The left over nut powder in the sieve is very tasty you can use it in sweets or curries.
