Annaprasana is a Hindu ritual which marks the first solid food feeding for the baby.

It is an occasion on its own, but we decided to combine it with my baby’s naming ceremony. For girls it’s performed on the 5th, 7th or 9th months and for boys 6th, 8th or 10th month. As my baby was just 5 months we decided to club the two.

After the naming ceremony, the Pandit started with the Annaprasana ceremony. He blessing the food and handed it over to me. My baby was placed of my husband’s lap.

We had specially asked the cooks to make dal payasam, it’s a keer made of milk, dal, ghee and jaggery. With that we had few sweets that were prepared for the guests along with some plain rice. So a total of 5 items were placed on the plate.

But sad part was that my baby was sleeping. We tried very hard to wake her and she just had half her eyes open. My husband had to dip his ring in payasam and place it in the baby’s mouth. Though she was asleep, she was enjoying the payasam, her tongue was out for more J but we stopped as she is not used to it.

Then we just placed a few grains of rice in her mouth and the ceremony was over.

If your baby can crawl place books, laptop, musical instrument, food and few creative things that you can think of. Whichever the baby reaches out to is a fun way of guessing what he or she wants to do in life.

We had to skip this part as my lil one cannot crawl.
