5 Tips to protect your children and keep the infections at bay

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Happy and Healthy It’s that time of the year again when you can savour those mouth-watering snacks with a piping hot cuppa. Rains remind me of my childhood days when we enjoyed splashing around and playing aimlessly. I love the fresh smell of the wet earth (petrichor) after a few showers. Children these days are so busy with gadgets that they miss out on enjoying nature and its beauty. In continuation to my earlier post on The Monsoon Affair , here are FIVE smart steps to boost your child’s immune system and keep your family infection-free.

1.            Maintain personal hygiene

Make it a practice to wash hands before and after meals. Ensure every member changes their clothes and sanitizes hands after coming home from work or school. Dirt tends to accumulate in the nails, feet and hair, take extra care to keep them clean. Starting good oral habits early for kids really helps. After watching a “Sparkly Teeth’ animated song on TV, my kids look at the brushing activity as fun.

2.            Avoid street food

Food poisoning is most pervasive in the rainy season. Avoid eating uncooked and uncovered food outside; opt for well cooked warm foods. As much as possible consume only home cooked meals.Involve your children in making some simple snacks at home. It can be a messy affair but will surely be fun for them. My junior Masterchef enjoys making his own version of the humble Bhel Puri with a dash of BBQ sauce in it.

3.            Stay hydrated

It is always safe to drink filtered and boiled water. Carry your own bottle of water when stepping out. We have switched to classy looking stainless steel bottles that are safe and easy to clean. Avoid excessive intake of caffeine as they tend to dehydrate you. Instead you can try herbal teas that are soothing and rich in antioxidants.

4.            Strengthen your body’s defense mechanism

Binge on locally available fruits. Garlic and ginger are best known for their anti inflammatory properties; add a dash of both these to your soups /curries to enhance flavour and boost immunity.
Enfagrow
Supercharge your child with health drinks that support their overall growth and development. ‘Enfagrow A+’, a leading global brand is now available in India. The formula contains DHA plus a blend of key nutrients like Iron, Zinc, Vitamin B6 and B12, Folate to power up your child’s Brain, Heart, Vision and Immune system. According to a clinical study, children who were regularly given fortified milk formula had less or no seasonal respiratory infections. While the fortified milk provides sufficient protein and calcium, it also focuses on making their immune system strong and healthy, thereby reducing the number of sick days and absence from school. DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid is essential and crucial in preserving brain health. DHA is also got from sources like oily fish, vegetable oils, chicken and eggs but as we know children are generally fussy eaters and giving them the right nutrients in the right proportion has been always challenging. A glass of milk with ‘Enfagrow A+’  is a healthy solution to this. The DHA in ‘Enfagrow A+’ is high quality, specifically approved for use in pediatric nutrition. It has been scientifically designed by Mead Johnson Research and Development Centre with 30 years of global experience in DHA research. ‘Enfagrow A+’ is suitable for children aged 2 years and above.

Always make sure that children use mosquito repellents before they go out to play . With a lot of plants in our garden, we take extra efforts to keep them well groomed to prevent any insects from creeping into our home. Growing Basil and Lemongrass in my kitchen garden has definitely helped in keeping the bugs and pests away.
