During the initial months breast milk provides all the nutrients and is enough for the child’s development.
But when the baby turns 3 months, breastmilk alone will not be enough to provide the baby with all the nutrition to grow. You can see my post here.
Most people start off with solid food after 6 months. But weaning the child is not an easy process. It takes time for the baby to adapt to new food and you need to give time to check for allergies. So most doctors prescribe the following 3 supplements in form of drops:
Zinc- Zinc is important for the child’s growth, it helps digestion and improves metabolism. We use visyneral z drops.
Iron- One of the most important building blocks as its present in the hemoglobin in blood. We use orofer xt drops.
Vitamin D – the main source of vitamin d is the sun but surprisingly most Indians have Vitamin D deficiency, I remember I got my levels checked during pregnancy and it was very low. Vitamin d is very important to absorb calcium in the milk.
Please consult your pediatrician before administering any of the above medication.
